Ah, fall. The most wonderful time of the year. I can almost smell the pumpkin spice flavored everything. To me, there is nothing better than watching the fall foliage from the window of a coffee shop on a chilly day. But in that vision I would normally be wearing workout clothes and a hoodie because fashion was a thing that, until recently, I thought was not for me. As a spoonie, clothes can be difficult. That’s why I often wore workout clothes, or if I needed to wear regular clothes for a meeting, they would be off within about 30 seconds of being in the door and exchanged for my trusty sweats. Dealing with interstitial cystitis, endometriosis and fibromyalgia causes me a lot of abdominal tenderness and often times swelling. So, I had come to the conclusion that being fashionable was a thing that just wasn’t in the cards for me. That is, until I met Malary Lush, owner of Bourbon and Rye in Fairview, TN and their sister store, online boutique Willow and Ryer.
I stumbled into Bourbon and Rye one afternoon in some workout clothes, no doubt, looking lost and probably a little disheveled. My first purchase from her store were three padded bralettes that became my absolute favorite things. I know what you’re thinking. I was really stepping outside my comfort zone, right? Ha! Listen. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither was my wardrobe. After having such luck with the bralettes, I decided to go back to the store and see what else I could find. Y’all. I. Was. Not. Prepared. What I found were gorgeous, comfortable, age appropriate, (where my 30 something girls at?! Holla!), size inclusive, affordable clothes! Malary and her girls are perfect shopping companions with impeccable taste.
I had the distinct honor of wearing some of the most adorable (and most comfortable) fashions from both Bourbon and Rye and Willow and Ryer for my most recent shoot and I wanted to share these amazing finds with you! I loved the clothes so much I ended up purchasing several of the items! For reference, I am 5’6, about 133 lbs and I wore a size small in each of these items.
The Lilly James Sweater ($39.50) is a perfect transitional piece for fall!
Layer it over a cami like the ruffle cami featured here during the warmer weeks and then throw on a chunky cardigan with it as the temps drop. It’s comfy, cozy, and the deep blue color will look great on every skin tone! You can purchase it here directly from the Bourbon and Rye website! You can also. score one of the adorable Ruffle Sleeveless Tunics ($21.99) by visiting the store. For those that aren’t local, just give the girls a call at (615) 266-2396 and place an order. These were actually two of the items I ended up purchasing and I am obsessed. These Judy Blue Jeans came from the store too. They are so stretchy and comfy! I can literally wear three different sizes comfortably!
The Kendall Swing Dress ($37.99) is perfect for when you want to dress up a bit, but still be comfortable. It pairs perfectly with some tall boots and the cold shoulder accents give it an added touch of style. But really, you can mix up your shoes and accessories with this one so much to help dress it up or down depending on the look you’re going for! Once again, this blue will flatter every skin tone. You can shop this look in person at the store or have it shipped right to your doorstep by ordering via phone at (615) 266-2396. The boots I wore actually came from Amazon and the beanie is from Love Your Melon.
The Kinsley Maxi Dress ($29.99) is another one of the looks I just had to own. First of all, can we talk about how gorgeous this cranberry color is?! It’s perfect for fall and can take you right through the holidays! You can dress this look up or down and truly wear it just about anywhere! Date night, lounging at home, hanging with your friends, fall festivals, or holiday get togethers will be even more cozy in this super soft dress. Seriously y’all, it is so buttery and soft. You can order this piece by visiting or calling the store at (615) 266-2396.
The Blooming Love Midi Dress ($44.99) is one of those classic pieces every woman needs in her closet. You can wear it during these last gasps of summer (and if you’re in Nashville, those can last all through September and even October). You can transition into fall with it by pairing it with a cardigan and then wear it again in the early spring. The floral print and tie around sash are so feminine and pretty! Though this look is more fitted, it is still very comfortable for all of my spoonies friends! It pairs beautifully with a heeled bootie, wedges, or some gorgeous flats. My faves are from Tieks! You can order this piece by visiting or calling the store at (615) 266-2396.
The Cancun Nights Hoodie ($43.99) is the perfect little sweater to throw on as the temps drop in the evenings. It’s lightweight and soft and has the most adorable Aztec design on it. It’s long enough that you can wear it with jeans or pair it with leggings! This is another one of those versatile pieces that is lightweight enough that you could carry it through early spring! This sweater made me want to curl up outside with a book and a cup of coffee (pumpkin spice flavored, natch). You can shop this sweater by heading over to Bourbon and Rye or order it by phone at (615) 266-2396.
Last but certainly not least was my favorite look from this shoot. The End of the Road Plaid Tunic ($51.99) screams casual, flirty, and fun. I paired this oversized tunic with the ruffle cami, leggings (Lauren Conrad for Kohls), and combat style boots but you could also pair it with tall boots, booties, or jeans! I actually scored this sweet find before the shoot. Once I saw it and its gorgeous brick color, I knew I had to have it. This is also super soft and lightweight making it the perfect layering piece. You can get yours by visiting Bourbon and Rye or ordering via phone at (615) 266-2396.
